Artillery beam auto-targeting and mantis scout
Right now then beam fires horizontally on mantis scout it hits only 2 compartments because mantis scout layout have almost all compartments in lower half of the targeting screen and beam plots horizontal or vertical line through the center of targeting screen. I consider this is a bug because you cant target beam and auto fire presumes random hit through the center of enemy ship - in this particular case its not hit but miss instead.

The artillery beam is intentionally not aimable because it bypasses shields.Vind wrote:Right now then beam fires horizontally on mantis scout it hits only 2 compartments because mantis scout layout have almost all compartments in lower half of the targeting screen and beam plots horizontal or vertical line through the center of targeting screen. That you can't aim it is irrelevant to the fact that it misses most of the mantis scout.Icehawk78 wrote:The artillery beam is intentionally not aimable because it bypasses shields.Vind wrote:Right now then beam fires horizontally on mantis scout it hits only 2 compartments...
I suspect the beam has a similar problem with hitting the torus. Since that ship has an empty middle it would be better if the beam would fire along one of the sides of that ship.

Re: Artillery beam auto-targeting and mantis scout
if they knew what they were doing the beam would have one angle per ship
the angle that hits the most rooms, but that would require some thought and testing instead of a fan base of idiots that just yell feature at the top of their lungs

Does it only fire on a fixed arc? I thought I'd seen it do more than one path across ships.
It IS annoying when it only hits like 2 sections, but you have to take that into account when planning. It's a meaningful choice.

The beam has at least two possible paths across ships, including the Mantis Scout. I think i remember it shooting in the lower part of the ship and getting a good chunk of it.

You can't plan the shot itself, but you can take into account that you don't know exactly how much damage it will do.
