Instant CTD on Launch

Post by kthln »

I'd like to say up front that I'm 99% sure that this is an issue with my video card hating OpenGL, as I've had similar issues with other programs. Oh, and placing a CPU version of OpenGL in the install folder makes it at least start, but with unplayable lag (I assume that this is due to lol CPU OpenGL).

Now then, on the off chance that it is actually fixable:
Whenever I launch FTL it immediately crashes. I'm on a laptop (Windows 7 64-bit) with an ATI 5870 Mobility card, and the drivers are unfortunately unable to be updated easily. There is apparently a way to do it that involves flashing the BIOS, but I'm not super eager to try that.

Crash log:

Code: Select all

Version =  1.01

Last Player Ship

Last Enemy Ship

Last Event Text =

Stack Trace:

1 - 0x6903b212 DrvSwapBuffers

Edit: Slight update, downloading mobility drivers and then extracting the OpenGL .dll and placing it in the game folder works slightly better than using the CPU version, still too laggy to actually play. Still starts, at least.

Hello. With that crash log and the ATI mobile video card range, we've had nearly a 100% fix rate by just uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. Instructions if you need them:

Uninstall them: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... ivers.aspx

Reinstall/update them for Windows 7:
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pa ... dows7.aspx

Someone today emailed saying they'd updated their drivers last week and this still worked for them. I have no explanation as to why.

I uninstalled video drivers, ran driver sweeper, then reinstalled them and unfortunately it still does not work.

Edit: Oh wow I just realized that I spelled the title wrong. I'm an idiot.
