Jumping Jack Boarding Drone?

Post by spacecadet13 »

So, I'm playing the DASR-12, on normal, doing well for a change, got my hopes up. Got a few shields and a defense drone, but still light on firepower, into sector 7, come up against a pretty formidable Rebel Ship, which launches a boarding drone at me when the cloak runs out. The D Drone shoots down the first one, but the second one hits the Shield room. Curses! But, as soon as my guy manning the shields engages it, it jumps - and breeches, into the unmanned 02 room. Huh? I thought, can't have seen that, the Rebel musta fired another boarding drone at me. I send a Rock crewman into the 02 room, and, same thing - as soon as it engaged the drone, it jumped - into the cloaking room, another breech, thankyouverymuch... So, I'm a super fast learner, this time I leave it alone, manage to hit the drone control on the Rebel ship, cautiously engage the inactive drone, fortunately it stays inactive this time. Never seen this happen before (or since)

Anybody else had this happen? I'm thinking of starting a class-action lawsuit against FTL, and my laywer says the more victims of this "jumping" I can gather up the more money we'll get. As I'm sure you can understand, this was a deeply traumatic event that lead to the loss of a very valuable and experienced Zoltan crew member, and while it didn't cause the destruction of the ship in itself, it did cause the ship to take signficant structural and system damage, and three jumps later, no store in sight, the crappy D Drone failed to stop a missile that hit the Drone Control room and set it on fire, and a few missiles later it was all over. We're talking serious emotional and mental harm!

Wow. That is definitely not a bug that has been reported before. I can dig through the system to see if I can come up with why that possibly happened, but given the difficulty in reproduction it could be hard to fix.

It does sound deeply traumatic. All I can offer is my deepest sympathies for your brave crew. I hope whatever engi programmed those drones gets their act together to get it fixed. Though it does sound like a rather powerful design....

Not a boarding drone but I saw somewhat similar behavior with a human boarder today... he seemed to warp diagonally through a wall in from the main chamber of my rock ship into the shield room... Had the highest level of doors and was trying to suffocate them so it was a bit distressing.

Are you using the most recent version of FTL barsooma? Most of the walk-through-walls bugs were fixed in the last patch. (check your main menu, it should be 1.02.6)

There is one possibility of it being a non-glitch that you misunderstood what happened: An asteroid impact or weapon impact will sometimes hit an active boarding drone while en-route to its target, negating the damage and destroying the drone in one hit, upon which the enemy ship will likely launch a new boarding drone. I was surprised when this happened twice to me in one fight in an asteroid field recently, as I didn't know that could happen once the drone had already finished boarding.
