I had a scenario where I was trying to teleport my crew back to my ship, and one of the crew members was attempting to break through upgraded doors of an enemy ship. There were two crew members in the same room, but I only teleported the member that was not trying to break through the door.
I would assume the game thinks the crew member that's attempting to path to the other room is not in the room that he/she is actually in, and is instead in the room that he/she is trying to path to.

Welcome to the forum Monkeh.
This is a common problem and your assumption is 100% correct. I felt that boarding was not explained very well so there was much trial and error when learning how to do it. The way around this problem is to send your boarders to the same room, then beam them back. It helps if you pause the game. IIRC they dont have to stand still, just be in the same room and NOT be moving to another room.

So does this mean that I could teleport two boarded crew members back from an enemy ship by simply setting their paths to the same room, without having them both physically there?
Or is it, instead, that the teleporter ignores boarded crew members trying to move away to another room?

I too once lost a couple of crewmembers due to this effect.

Thanks for the welcome, Mantis! I've been having a blast playing FTL.
It definitely went against my expectations when both party members didn't make it back. In the case where I would only want to bring a single person back, I would expect to have to get the boarders into separate rooms before using the teleporter. Of course, that's only my opinion.
Thanks for the reply!

Well you would have to click on a room so both crewmembers need to be in it. The problem/bug is that if one of them is trying to break down the door and move to another room, the game will not recognise him as being in the room you selected.Dell_the_Engie wrote:So does this mean that I could teleport two boarded crew members back from an enemy ship by simply setting their paths to the same room, without having them both physically there?
So they all need to be in the room, and they must not have been ordered to move to another location. This is obvious when there are only normal doors on a ship, but with upgraded doors it appears they are all still where they should be, but the game logic thinks they are not.

Perhaps this is a bug, but I'd rather it not be fixed, although I've certainly been bitten by it in the past... it adds a extra little spice to boarding.
If it helps, just think of it as the teleporter losing lock if the crew aren't motionless during beam up - not everyone is as skillful as Scotty.

Boarding is spicy enough as is :|barsooma wrote:Perhaps this is a bug, but I'd rather it not be fixed, although I've certainly been bitten by it in the past... it adds a extra little spice to boarding.
