Possible AI Bug? (video included)

Post by Dell_the_Engie »

After disabling their most vital systems, the AI crew seemed to just throw up their arms and give up. The crew make no attempt to restore their oxygen system, perhaps because they register a greater risk in crossing through the deoxygenated rooms to get there, but they die anyway when the rest of the ship completely drains of oxygen. It's worth noting that I watched this behavior for about 10 or 15 seconds before I decided to record it, so the crew probably had about 30 seconds in total to restore their oxygen before the whole ship lost air.

Welcome to the forum.

Similar behaviour has been reported before, but it was about the Boss. In your case, i belive the enemy crew decided they would all die on their way to the O2 room or while trying to repair it. Since their ship didn't have a medbay the AI logic had nothing for them to do and they just sat there and asphyxiated.

It seems they had enough time but the AI didn't see it that way. I guess it's a bug, probably caused by their critical health.

Good win for you :)

Yeah, I looked into other bug reports before I posted this, I did notice that someone had reported a similar case with the boss crew. I actually hadn't noticed, though, that there was a yellow outline around the O2 room, indicating that that room would be fatal to enter. Taking that into account, along with the fact that there was no medical bay, I can definitely see now why the crew couldn't have restored the O2 system without dying, and so their passive behavior was a way to postpone the inevitable. Sorry I didn't notice that sooner!

That does leave room, though, for a little suggestion. We already see text events in the game that involve people teleporting from their ships when there's no other hope. Considering that one of the few things still working on the Mantis ship was a teleporter, it might've been interesting if the crew could have abandoned their ship when the only other option was to simply stand and wait for death.

Also, thanks, glad to join this forum, looks like a great community!

Glad you joined us.

Now that you mention it, the most logical (or at least the most appealing for us gamers) option is to try a suicidal boarding run and try to take the player's ship, since theirs is pretty much junk at this point. It would require some coding so i don't really think it's going to happen soon, but it's a good idea too keep in mind for a possible future update. Although, the crew in the video was too weak to do anything but pray to whatever deity they belive in.

Yeah, the only times they are likely to be unable to repair their O2 system is if they are already low on health.

Thanks, Mantis. If you like that idea, I do have a post on getsatisfaction that suggests this. Liking/commenting is of course appreciated.
