Cannot downgrade to 1.6.9

I am currently attempting to play the multiverse mod, which requires version 1.6.9, and have successfully installed hyperspace and the mod, but when trying to downgrade my version of FTL, something goes wrong. Apparently the issue is that it
“couldn’t read ROM. What exactly are you doing?”
I do not understand how to solve this and would appreciate help downgrading.

What version of FTL are you using (Steam, GOG, Origin etc.)?
