Resolution issues still

Post by Soop »

Hi, I bought this game a number of weeks ago and I am still yet to play it.

I am still have a strange resolution issue whereby the image seems to be too big for my screen. It cuts the left hand and top of the screen off.

I have attempted all the fixes I have found on this forum, including the .ini modifications as well as activating the game on steam and downloading the latest versions. All of which do nothing. Stretching doesn't work. I simply have two large black bars on either side of my screen with an image in the middle that is stretched beyond what is visible (I can't even select the menu to quit the game at this point). Black bars mode does a similar thing.

The latest update I got which enabled a "Native resolution" mode does exactly the same thing as the stretched mode does.

All in all, I'm starting to get a little aggravated as this game does look quite entertaining.

My Video card is an ATI 5400HD Mobility and I am viewing the game on a 40" LCD television screen which is native to 1920x1080p.

You've obviously already tried a lot, but can you confirm you have upgraded your drivers? Also, what is your operating system?

Maybe a part of the problem lies in the TV? If you are sending an image that is less than 1920x1080, it may have trouble displaying it full screen, including possibly strange behavior that you are describing.

So, are you running your computer with a 1920x1080 resolution, have you set the ini file so that the game tries to be displayed at 1920x1080 (stretched or something)?

Finally, can you post the contents of stdout.txt (and stderr.txt if it's not empty) here, in case something weird happens when the game starts up?

My TV works fine with every single other game I play at any resolution I choose. So I'm hesitant to say that its the issue.
I am using windows 7, and my drivers were updated last Monday.

Yes I tried to set the resolution in the ini to 1920x1080 on various display settings and nothing really made any difference.

Here is the contents of the stdout.txt;

Hello there. Sorry about the problem, the TVs seem to cause strange problems that we're still trying to figure out. Can you try setting your default desktop resolution to 1280x720 and running FTL again in Fullscreen (either mode)?

Done that, it does nothing what so ever.

I should also mention that I have the DPS set to 163% so that things are visible from a distance. It's not an option to continually reset this.

First time I see a mention of "DPS" (I don't have Windows 7). What is it, apart from "Diagnostic Policy Service", which I doubt is the correct answer here? :)

I don't know exactly what it is, but it just increases the size of the buttons and icons on the screen. It's in the display options.

They probably meant DPI, dots per inch. Try right clicking FTL's shortcut, Properties, Compatibility, Disable display scaling on high DPI settings and see if that fixes the issue.
