Do enemies ever surrender when you're killing their crew?

I've played enough that I should know this, but do enemies ever surrender when you're close to killing all their crew, or is it only when their hull gets low?

Asking because I'm currently in the slug nebula, and my tactics are heavily based on boarding crews, but I'm wondering if that will prevent me from getting a chance to unlock the slug cruiser.

I don't believe they do. At least, I can't ever recall an instance in my many boarding missions. Hopefully you packed some decent guns.

Can't remember seeing them do that either, only from hull damage.

As far as I've seen, they don't surrender when you've locked down their shields, weapons, and are keeping their oxygen room constantly under ion attacks, either. It takes a while, but they just suffocate.

I concur that only hull damage is the trigger for the surrender message, if they're going to surrender at all.

Yes, this is keeping you from unlocking the slug cruiser. I did the same thing back in beta and when I asked if boarding the slug ships were screwing me over Justin tried to be mysterious and "hint" that it was the case, but he pretty much just told me that was it.

Yep, enemy crew will happily die, but their ship is a coward and wants to live ^^

The only way to get a surrender with boarding is to let some crew live and destroy enough rooms to drop the hull low. Which is nether the easy nor the fast way.

I had it happen once.

Though I do not know if it was due to hull damage, as I was killing the ship from the inside and out.

It is strange, both crews just drop weapons and stare in disbelief....... Though they gave me a nice nice weapon for the surrender, if I recall correctly.
