Any way to get FTL standalone installer from Steam Key?

Post by Luieburger »

Hello,

I've been playing FTL on Steam and I want to install it on a laptop that does not (and cannot) have Steam installed.

Is there a way for me to obtain the standalone installer? I'd like to be able to play the game anywhere, even without Steam. I paid for the game, so would it be legal to torrent the standalone installer?

When you buy the game on the official website, you get the standalone installers (for Windows, Mac, Linux), and a Steam key. Unfortunately, this is not symmetrical. When you buy the game on Steam, you only get the Steam version.

Maybe you can ask Steam for a refund, and buy the game on the official website? This way, you not only get the standalone installer, but also a Steam key.

By the way, it would not be legal to torrent the standalone installer, since you have not bought the right to use it, and would be uploading it to people who have not paid the game at all.

You should tell the Humble Bundle folks that P2P is evil and is piracy too, as they offer the stand-alone installer as a torrent.

Presumably not a torrent you can have access to if you haven't bought the game.

If the torrent is only available to those that have bought the game from humble bundle there is nothing inherently evil about it. But if it is available to everyone without paying it's copyright infringement and in my opinion theft and evil.
