Dodging 9 damage with a cloak?

How do I do this?

I tried cloaking against the mothership when it was firing its super weapons (all the drones and all the blasts) and that didn't seem to matter.

How do you dodge 9 damage?

I managed to dodge the power surge damage without cloak.

I had the Engi cruiser with around 8 or more in engines and fully skilled pilot and engineer, full shield and a defense drone. When ever the power surge was detected I powered down anything non vital (turned off O2, Medbay, some weapons) and put it all into my shield and engines until the burst was over. That way most of the shots missed and the rest was absorbed by the shield and some rockets were destroyed by the drone. I rarely got any damage at all.

After that I powered back my two Ion Blast II that I had (you get one at the start) and a attack drone and fired in bursts to take down the shield and other things so the drone can deal some damage. It is a very slow tactic though, as I was mainly concerned about not dying like in all other previous attempts

You need a lot of power and Shield and Engine upgrades that get very expensive in the end. Zoltan crew are very useful here for getting you the extra power for the engines and shield.

Oh ok I didn't see that this was for a achievement. You might want to mention it somewhere

I accidentaly did this druing boss fight. I just cloaked against flagship volley and voila, achievement unlocked.

Is it possible to dodge the phase 3 power surge? I've tried but I've never seen any of the projectiles not hit.

I've dodged the phase 3 blast, but didn't get the achievement. So I guess it wouldn't have done 9 damage?

I've managed to do this on stage 3 of the boss battle. Dodged 3 rockets and all blasts from his special ability. Cloaking FTW
