I don't know if it's the right forum, discussion doesn't seem fit for it.
Basically, I can use Steam on either a "gaming" desktop or a "working" laptop. I started playing on the desktop, but it's currently down for various reasons, so I wanted to play on the laptop… and it turns out the game doesn't sync unlocks, so I've got to re-unlock all the ships and alternate layouts.
Are there any plans to hook into Steam for syncing of unlock? And for achievements (so they're visible from the game)?

Sorry, we wanted to add both Steam Achievements and Cloud support but we ran into a technical hurdle that prevented FTL from being able to access most of the Steam API. It's something we'd love to add in the future but it just might not be possible. We're as disappointed as you

You can use dropbox or similar service to sync your unlocks and game saves. It takes some setting up but works. Plus you can sync your game save across Linux and Windows. Heres a guide on how it works for minecraft. http://www.garrettbartley.com/2010/09/2 ... d-dropbox/

I did this exact thing with The Binding of Isaac and it works brilliantly to keep my progress saved across all of my machines.jjcf89 wrote:You can use dropbox or similar service to sync your unlocks and game saves. Re: Steam Cloud / unlock synchronization?
I am familiar with this process and have done it with Minecraft. What directory would I need to symlink for FTL?
EDIT: I located the folder that should be symlinked as in the linked post above. The line in Mac OS X terminal would be (presuming you placed the FasterThanLight folder inside a folder called Application Support in your Dropbox directory):
As you may see above the folder you want is located in ~/Library/Application Support. For Windows just do the thing listed in the link above.

Code: Select all
ln -s ~/Dropbox/Application\ Support/FasterThanLight ~/Library/Application\ Support/FasterThanLight

I'm no developer, but doesn't Steam offer some kind of technical support that might be able help you guys get achievements implemented?Matthew wrote:Sorry, we wanted to add both Steam Achievements and Cloud support but we ran into a technical hurdle that prevented FTL from being able to access most of the Steam API. Um, you revived a months old topic to say that? Btw, since the creation of this topic they did add steam cloud support. In any case I'm sure they are aware of what kinds of technical support for developers is offered by Valve.

I guess I should've been more specific. I was referring to Steam Achievements, not the cloudNumber43 wrote:Um, you revived a months old topic to say that?
