I haven't played this game but I've watched a few videos and know I will enjoy it. For a form of multiplayer, there could be two players that start on opposite sectors and follow the same general game idea and when they hit the center fight it out based on how they spend their scrap and what things they have picked up along the way. post for added ideas and thoughts.
P.S. I may not check this too often so don't expect immediate response

Re: Multiplayer idea
Players would progress through the same game at different speeds and it would essentially be the single player game with a multiplayer finisher wouldn't it?
You seem to be underestimating the difficulty of the game.
I think you are underestimating how difficult it will be to adapt to make it pvp. How would the pause function work for instance?

Re: Multiplayer idea
I have always imagined that the time would go as slow as one of the players suggest, just like in defcon: If one player pauses, then it's paused for everyone, and everyone can issue orders, and as soon as everyone have stopped the pause, the game continues
I always have this great idea to post about when reading a thread, but I always seem to loose the subject while writing a reply, and end up not saying anything at all. I should sleep more. Is that a cookie?

Re: Multiplayer idea
I'd always imagines multiplayer would work better if 2 or 3 player ships started in random sectors of the first sector, and just played though as normal, unless one jumped onto the node of another. If so, they'd have a fight. Either one would kill another (eliminating the danger of an encounter later) or one could jump away. at the end, instead of a boss, the first 2 ships would fight to the death. After all, what sort of federation only uses one ship?
Either that, or taking the left for dead 2 (may also be original left for dead, but i haven't played that) where players actually play as the enemies. 2 players, one as a standard hero ship, one playing the enemies the standard enemy generation throws up. this would increase difficulty somewhat, but we like difficult!

That would be Awesome! However if thats not possible I think a steam trade system would be a lot of fun. Like in Team Fortress 2 you could trade weapons and crew ect. There would almost be a player economy. But multiplayer of any sort would be really special!

Re: Multiplayer idea
PVP would be awesome. I really with this was something that was implemented. Pausing would be something you'd have to get rid of for online play, it would simply be a case of preparing your ships power levels and crew locations before the battle, and then doing any further order in real-time.
Your multiplayer ship could be different to your single player ship, and it saved across games, extra weapons, scrap, ammo, crew and augmentations could be gained from the spoils of war, and random matching between similar players' ships would allow players to upgrade their ships straight away.
Either that or players could battle using stock ships, upgraded versions of the ships you have unlocked in singleplayer that are balanced in a way that makes it a fair battle.
Just a suggestion I would be extremely excited to see developed.

You do know that this is a roguelike? Steam trading is a really bad idea.cuthulhuiscool2 wrote:That would be Awesome! However if thats not possible I think a steam trade system would be a lot of fun.
