The title pretty much says it all:
The MSSM (More Ship Slot Mod) adds 1 page to the ship selection screen, with that you could add custom ships without removing the default one

to add a ship, you'll have a exe file where you could choose where to place the custom ship on the page and save it as a ftl file, you'll then install this file and you're done!

I'm sure you could do that and I think it would be cool

You cannot add a second screen to it without source modding. I do believe that FTL: overdrive does this already.

Not possible without re-programming the game. There's nothing modders can do to add more than 18 ships.
