No Sound?

Post by Domo91 »

Hey there. The other day when i started up FTL there was no sound. No music either. The game works perfectly fine, just no awesome music. Any suggestions?

Did you install any mods?
Are any other games having sound issues?

I've actually been having the same problem. I haven't messed with the game at all after installing it off GOG, and the sound just refuses to work. Reinstalling didn't fix the problem either. There is just no sound whatsoever.

I did have some installed, but I took them off. All my other games work fine as far as i know. I tried reinstalling it multiple times. It has to be something with the mods, no? what should i do?

It may be related to this problem. Sometimes mods made for one version of FTL cause problems on a newer version. GMM may incorrectly replace files in such cases and it will also keep backups that interfere. These backups will cause problems even after removing the mod.

Try deleting the FTL folder entirely (your profile is kept separately and will not be affected), then install the game again.

Not having sound is a weird issue. I can only imagine that some mod that altered the music files is responsible but i cannot guess which one and how. The issue is probably in corrupted resources so it's best to delete the game folder completely. In the future, after installing the game make a copy or resources.dat and data.dat and keep these files safe. If you game gets corrupted again, use these backups to restore the game to normal. Do this before installing mods.

Thanks for the solid response, but this did not work. Instead of absolute silence though, I can now hear a quiet static noise in the background.

Does anyone have any ideas? I checked GoG and there's no issue with the latest update/installer. I don't understand why one game of all would stop playing audio.

Is it possible that some drivers/directx were updated and caused a compatibility problem?

I knowthat my drivers haven't updated since before I downloaded the game. I don't know about Direct X. I haven't tried reinstalling after removing everything related to the game, but if a regular reinstallation didn't work I'm not sure what doing it again slightly differently would fix.

I'm having the same issue. I've never had any problem until today, I've even played about 10h during the last week. And today there is no sound at all (it was set to min when I checked in the option menu which is weird) and when I increased the sound volume and music volume, all I could hear sounded like an alien talking, I thought it was some kind of Easter Egg since the game is on sale right now but I guess it's kinda weird.
