Bug map and encounters with ships.
I start the game and my map is completely black all i see is the exit icon. Also when i encounter other ships that screen is also completely black.
Need help please i have already uninstalled and reinstalled the game. same thing when i had this on steam also.

Please answer the following questions so that the game developers can better understand your problem.
- What operating system do you use? Windows? Mac? Linux?
- What graphic card do you have?
- Are you playing on a laptop?
Please verify that your video drivers are up-to-date, outdated drivers is the most common cause of graphical glitches like you have.

Game - Steam, GoG or Humblebundle
OS - Win, Mac or linux
Display adapter/graphics card
CPU

According to this post, there are some problems with catalyst 12.10 and openGL support. AMD website specification list mentions support for OpenGL 3.2 was scheduled for later release in 2010.
I guess the drivers just can't handle FTL and your PC isn't compatible with it, so you cannot play the game. Using different drivers or buying a more compatible card (ask before you buy) could be the solution.
If your computer is unable to run the game, you should ask for a refund. I'm very sorry.

I have AMD Catalyst version 12.10 and 'standard is not an option in the filter dropdown menu. My 4 options are 'Box', 'Narrow-tent', 'Wide-tent', and 'Edge-detect'. The correct option is 'box'.

Same goes for me, I made a profile for FTL with the recomended ATi settings but still no map nor enemy ships.
Sys: Win 7 Pro (x64), 8GB RAM, i5 2,6 GHz, ATi Radeon HD 5870 with Catalyst 12.10.

None of the options make a difference? "standard" or "box" should work, seems only "edge-detect" causes a problem.
