I actually came up with this months ago:

I wanted to make a fancy boss rush version for FTL. Though, I never really got around making the actual mod itself.
The only way to progress linearly was to switch an augment which allowed access to the next event.

Yeah I remember that thread. I guess no one really wants to take this on, as it would be so much work just getting a core game mechanic working that vanilla FTL normally nicely provides.

Yeah, It does have to do with replacing every single event and creating hundreds of stranded events.
Also, this allows for no endgame. In the case of a ship station mod, this wouldn't be a worry, but in my version which which requires an endgame,this would be problematic.

Ah, wait a second. You could give players access to a store, just as long as you set the price for fuel to be some ridiculously large number.

I am uncertain as to whether it is possible to change fuel prices. Furthermore, you cannot despawn a store or change the goods it's selling once it has been created.

I'm not sure but I think waiting actually resets the event at the beacon and gives you a new one, this should despawn the store as well.

Oh and yes, fuel prices can be changed. Fuel, missiles and drone parts have a blueprint and a price tag just like everything else. 999 scrap for fuel? Well yeah, the Rebels invaded all the fuel producing regions. Galaxy wide fuel crisis and stuff... :roll:

Now I'm thinking the station could be a fuel factory. :|
