when I say colorize, yes, I mean changing the hue value from the colorize option

what I mean is that when you select by color it selects pixels with similar colors to the one selected. The variance in this is what causes not all of the color (red in this case) to be selected

this causes the other red pixels to be left out, then you gotta colorize again for those pixels, and then I have to guess which hue value to 'slide' to resulting in not perfectly changing the red pixels to orange

I say this because of the assumption that I -- being a somewhat newbie at GIMP, for instance not knowing what many of the tools do, but knowing a few things more than the totally new -- am not as familiar with GIMP and not having used it regularly enough that stylesrj is probably more familiar ending up in a more uniform color change.

tbh though, perfection is not practical -- it's good enough for me and ... nobody's perfect

I take the blunt hammer approach to GIMP.

I select massive swathes of colour, then slowly cut out the bits I don't want selected. Of course bits might slip through because my mouse goes crazy at times or I'm not that precise.

As for hues and stuff? I run the sliders until I get a colour that looks similar then increase the lightness and stuff. If it turns out the orange is brown, I run the sliders again until I'm certain that it's actually orange and not maroon or brown.
