Help with spriters block?

Post by WhiteWeasel »

I'm trying to get back into modding in FTL, but I'm a bit stuck. It's not that's spriting is particularly hard, it's just I can't do it if I don't have an idea in mind for what my mod weapons will look like. What should a missile launcher look like, a laser weapon, etc..

I'm kinda looking for inspiration, or at path on the right track.

What!? But that's what my prism cannon did!

I don't wanna lose my monopoly on rainbow lasers! How about variations of ion stunners and anti-bio beams? If that's not original enough try making a bomb weapon that looks like a laser weapon and has an invisible bomb animation that lasts 0 seconds, like it's projecting energy or something. Those are always fun.

Monopoly on rainbow lasers?
You're forgetting DryEagle's Escort Service where the escort ship had an old laser that flashed many colours before impacting on the enemy ship.

I wanted a weapon that just made lights without any damage though. or maybe something very minor like low fire chance and thats it

Is it possible to have a missile that flashes different colours in flight, or makes a lovely, colourful firework explosion on impact? Maybe you could look in that direction.

It is, but it would technically have to be a laser so you could animate the projectile so you'd have to set the drone targetable value to 1.

I appreciate the responses from you guys, but I'm not doing an projectile animations. When you say "Missile Launcher" Do you do a tube like structure with doodads on it? I sound really dumb here, but simply how do you imagine what a weapon will look like. I have a really hard time visualizing something when I'm trying to make a new idea.

Uuugggh, this is such a frustrating problem to explain to people.

When I make a weapon what I usually do is grab something like the burst laser or pike beam (depending on the weapon I want to make), copy and paste bits of other weapons on and do some fine tuning until the bits look like they belong on the weapon. Is that any help?
