Problems creating weapon MOD...

Post by olePigeon »

Howdy. I have installed Slipstream and Super Luminal on my Mac running FTL Advanced.

I've created a little weapon mod, but I'm having trouble making it into a usable .ftl mod to share with everyone. I've modified my two .dat files, created a custom graphic and animation, etc. Everything works fine when I replace the two .dat files in the resources folder.

So I open up Super Luminal to create a custom ship layout with my new weapon, then export it as a .ftl. The problem I run into is that when I load the .ftl into Slipstream, it creates a vanilla .dat file, then applies the mod. It has the changes I made to the ship layout, but it's missing my weapon.

Is there a command I should be using, or am I missing a step? Thanks.

In the meantime, here's a video of my mini weapon.

Since the video, I've increased the charge time to 14 seconds so it's a little faster than the 3rd shot of an ion charger, but not as fast as the 1st or 2nd shot. Kinda in the middle. But it has obvious advantages, such as hitting different rooms versus a single room.

Huzzah! Finally got it to work. I had to download a couple programs for some minor tweaking to make them Windows compatible.

Some tips for Mac users:

1. Get a copy of ZipCleaner by Roger Jolly
2. Get a copy of TextWrangler by Bare Bones Software

Edit your .xml.append files in TextWrangler, and when you save, set Line Breaks to Windows CRLF (UNIX/OS X uses LF only, and Slipstream wants CRLF.)

When you zip up your files, don't select the parent folder. Select the two data and [/b]img[/b] folders, then Compress. Drop the .Zip file on the ZipCleaner to remove the invisible UNIX files. Then rename to .ftl.

You can download my mini beam here (rarity of 4):

And a ship that's pre-equipped with it here:
http://www.wreckcenter.com/ftl/XR-21-Assassin.ftl

It'll replace your first stealth ship with the XR-21 Assassin... err, just the regular stealth ship with the new mini beam. :)
