Anti-Biobeam

Post by rasteroid »

Just trying to understand how this thing works.. when targeting, it seems like you can target one life-form, and then you can set an angle for the trail?

What is the idea here? Choose a target, then try to have the beam pass through as many creatures as possible? Really hard to tell if its having any impact.

ok I notice the pike beam works the same way, so this is a standard thing.. must be all about the angle, number of rooms/personnel you can hit? plz confirm?

It just seems odd that the first click is targeting like one part of the ship.. then the other lays the trail

A beam has to make contact/start somewhere. Feature, not a bug.

ya fair enough.. a thought though, with the bio-beam you target personnel, not arbitrary points. That limits your ability to anticipate where the dudes will be standing when the beam goes off.

I also take issue with the ease of ordering weapon firing, and the inability to prevent a weapon from firing after it has charged: these seem to be key strategic points. But that's for another thread...

You can stop a weapon firing after it's charged. Just turn off autofire.

...or clear its assigned target (select weapon and right click somewhere in target window)

Does the beam have to hit the person, or anywhere in the room?

The former. This is a weapon best handled manually, with well timed pauses, so you can maximize its potential effect.

There are two ways of seeing inside an enemy ship: slugs and the upgraded camera. That's the only way to use the bio beam effectively. You can still shoot in the dark and hit things if you watch doors and know where the default standing positions are for personnel in each room type.
