boss drones

Hello, was there a patch which changed the boss second stage or did I get some bonus higher difficulty this time? :-] I always thought those power surge drones last just few seconds and you can survive their attack by using cloak. But this time I got into the last stand with very good armanent and felt very confident during boss fight phase 1, but then I lost because that swarm of drones was there all the time! I could not really do much to withstand their crazy fire rate :-\ WTH? Is this normal?

There are no auto-updates/patches to the game. Did you or someone with access to your computer apply a mod to your copy of FTL? Facing a horde of enemy drones in the second phase is not supposed to happen outside of the flagship's temporary power surges, even on Normal Mode. Sounds like a glitch, and I've never encountered it!

I happen to have a save from sector 5 before it, so I will try getting there again and check what happens next time :-]

Note: In the 2nd phase, there ARE always a couple (2? 3? I never pay attention but it's more than 1) drones around your ship all the time. The power surge just adds more.

The non power-surge drones obey the regular drone rules as well - they'll be knocked off line if you beat on the drone room enough.

Keep in mind also that the drone selection is random every time in a power surge—so it might seem way worse some times.

In one game I had 2 drone surges in a row be all beam drones except for 1 attack drone... luckiest power surges ever...

Actually it's random what the boss has in the surge, but every surge is the same. If you have all beams in the first surge, you can take your time and relax in subsequent surges.
