Glory to the spacebar.

Post by Kokojo »

So, like a moron, until my first win, believe it or not, I played without using pause. This meant countless losses and many hardships, but none as frustrating as my run with the Kestrel B, Red tail, the Kokoship.

My very first jump gave me a free weapon floating in space, Burst Laser Mark II.
Needless to say, without any hesitation, I plowed right trough ANYTHING with little to no resistance... well to make matters more easy, in the middle of the run, sector 4, I got a weapon pre-igniter, two scrap recovery arms, and two more Burst Laser Mark II. With 7 power in weapons, I was able to shoot 10 lasers at once, at the begining of the battle. With my extra scrap, I was nearly maxed in everything but drones (That I never purchased). Cloaking was level 3, doors too, and everything was going dandy. My crew was diverse but had no prone boarders but two low-level humans.

I shall remind you that It was my first time facing the rebel flagship and that I knew not of the pause button.

The first stage was pretty easy : 10 lasers completely destroyed their weapons system one by one AND the man manning them. Before their third cloak, my ship received 3 damage from missiles, but their ship was destroyed. I was surprised to see that it survived, since I didn't know anything about it. Still, I pressed on, I only had 2 jumps left.

The second stage was hell, because my first volley....found a way to miss. All the lasers. Each one of them. And then I made the error of cloaking early on their first missile volley. Then their boarding drone landed... and then POWER SURGE!!!! Huh, what's that? I hope it's not OH MY GOD WHAT IS THAT AHHHHHHHHHHHH pewpewpewpew.

My ship took immense damage, I lost most survival systems (O2, Medbay) to beam drones, and my crew member was dying from the first boarding drone that landed in the weapons room. I focused their missiles weapons and hit, but since I could't micromanage, my weapon expert died. No big deal, right? I then plowed their shields, and hit. They were down to two. And then POWER SURGE. Things were well planned for the Flagship : their laser hit me at the same time, and such I took tremendous damage once more. There was fire everywhere, all important systems but shields damaged. Most of all, my weapons systems was being attacked by the Boarding drone! It was a mess.

While cloaking, I dealt with the boarding drone, and repaired weapons with my engi crew member, but as I realized my air level all around was low, but there was another boarding drone on the way. To fix this, I send my engi in the O2 room. Needless to say the drone landed there! Augh! I decided to attack quickly, but meanwhile I lost a crew member to suffocation. I mobilized my 1 rockman crew to the O2 room while making the engi repair weapons along with a human and hoped. Shot after shot, my crew members continued to die from lack of oxygen. Suddenly, my volley touched the Flagship and ended the second phase... WHAT THERE IS ANOTHER ONE?

My ship was in the red, most system down, but most of all, I only had 2 crew members left. And soon one, the time it took for the air to flow back. The lone rockman took the extremely long job of repairing everything. I installed him in piloting, and went after the flagship. I could not repair in any way, all the stations were way too far.

I arrived and masterfully attacked, focusing only the shields as I thought I could win in 5-6 volleys.. Meanwhile, they boarded my ship with about 4 crew members. Gosh! I opened all doors and the send the rockman in my level 3 medbay, and focused solely on cloaking and attacking. This was my undoing. As the last of their crew member died, I missed a cloak, and their master weapon hit me full force. I could not evade, and they all hit. My doors were stuck open, and my medbay reduced to level 1. I could still use my weapons to win, I was about a volley away! But then... the three missiles fired... and they hit the medbay. Level 0, no air. Had I known how to pause, I could have been fast enough, but no, the severely damage rockman died just a mere second before the air would have flown again in his medbay, the flaship 4 hp away from dying.

Let this be a lesson to you all : the power of pausing is way better than 10 laser.

If I had to do a no-pause run (and I've thought about it, briefly, in my more insane moments) I'd pick the red tail.

And disable the pause key because I'd use it out of habit if nothing else.

Even though it wasn't intentional, it's super hardcore to do so many runs without using pause. Congrats! 8-)
