Drone control and 1st free drone schematic

This is my first post here:) I have a question about 1st free drone schematic that you get after buying drone control system. Correct me if I'm wrong but during my playthroughs I've noticed that when you buy it in first 3 (4?) sectors you get free repair system drone, but buying it in sectors 4-8 gets you a defence drone mk1. Is that always true or just my luck?

Hmmm I think that might just be luck. I'm pretty sure I've gotten them randomly. Though I don't think I've paid a lot of attention to what sector I'm in when I buy drone control.

I have a similar observation so I believe there might be some truth to it.

My understanding is that it is random, whenever you buy it, with a 66% chance of getting the repair drone and 33%of getting the defence drone.

It's either that or 75/25; never thoroughly tested it.

I just purchased drone control in the 2nd sector and get a defense drone. So, I think you were just seeing a coincidence.

Thanks for the answers guys. I am still not quite convinced, well I start to lean toward a theory that it is random but the randomness depends on the sector (so for example from 90/10 in S1 to 10/90 in S8 for repair/defence drone). It is just a bit to big coincidence for me to almost always getting repair drone in first sectors and defence in later ones. I'm sure it is sth to consider in terms of strategy (I tend to postpone buying drone controle for later sectors - at least 4 and even 5 just to be sure - except for getting the defence drone earlier ofc). I don't know but maybe the devs assumed that defence drone in early stages would be just too overpowered?
