[AAA/WIP] Italian translations.

Post by Dark_Emperor »

Hi, I'm an italian guy that really felt in love with FTL and its modding scene.

Sadly there is no translation for this game in any language except spanish (thanks to the great work of the modders), so I want to work on it.
I can obviously translate eglish to italian and I can read the code for what I've seen, but I'm not good in working on dat files.

I can offer my translation ability but I need an help for what doesn't concern about code, would anyone help me?

Thanks you all and gg.

Now we just need to translate FTL to eglish. :P

To get the original English text...
  • In Slipstream Mod Manager, under the File menu, click "Extract Dats".
  • That'll create several folders. You'll only care about "data/". The rest can be deleted.
* Before extracting, you may prefer to patch "Alpha - Base Game ... .ftl" from "The sM Polish Kit", which is described as vanilla FTL, but without all the XML typos that come with the original game.

In "data/", you'll find things to translate in the following files:
  • achievements.xml
  • autoBlueprints.xml?
  • blueprints.xml
  • events_*.xml
  • nameEvents.xml
  • names.xml
  • newEvents.xml
  • sector_data.xml?
  • tooltips.xml
When you save the changes in your text editor, try to save as UTF-8.

Accented characters will appear in-game as placeholder squares. This is because the standard FTL fonts lack the glyphs to represent them on the screen. To partially address this, you can use the fonts I made for the "Spanish Mod" ( link ).

Italian has a few more characters than Spanish (grave accents), but I can add those for you fairly easily.

In the meantime, those placeholder squares are only a cosmetic issue, which you can ignore as you translate.

You need to tick "accept license agreement" before clicking on the installer you want.

If that still doesn't work, these are direct links.
Link: Java Runtime 1.6.0_45 32bit
Link: Java Runtime 1.6.0_45 64bit

If you have Windows XP prior to Service Pack 2, you won't be able to run Java 1.7.
