Crew suffocating because of inactive drone

Post by Shokyu »

I came back to this game a good 1/2 year later and on my best run so far, after the 2nd phase of the boss there was a boarding droid or w/e its name in my O2 room and as well as hole in there. When I tried to get in there with my crew to repair the O2 and the hole they just kep attacking the inactive droid while both the red O2 room and the hole caused O2 loss in the ship. As it's a 2 space room and the droid had 150 hp I had to watch my whole crew suffocate because of this... Is this intented to happen like this? Repairing, taking off fire should have priority over attacking a droid which just stands in one place..

It's intended, though possibly one of the more annoying "features" of the game. I've never lost because of it and it should be pretty rare. I pretend that the drone is in the breach so they have to kill it first before repairing.

Unless you only had 2 guys on your ship, you should have been able to cycle guys through from the o2 room to the medbay and get that thing killed, then repair the hole. If you had the scrap for it, you could upgrade your medbay so they'll heal faster than they choke. Unless you've only got mantises (which repair SLOWLY) or the rooms are too far apart (in which case you spend too much time getting back and forth and not enough time repairing) you should be fine.

I do remember with the Basilisk I had to once keep going with no air, just running a Mantis to the pilot room to make a jump and back to the medbay to heal back up, until I got a 3rd crew member to do the repairs on the oxygen room. Maybe you could have done something like that?

In the end, though, yeah. Sometimes nothing will help and you just lose. It's one of the key tenets of the game and while your loss was particularly sad, it was still just a loss and all part of the journey.

Bad end. That is a nasty way to die esp. since it isn't logical to fight a dead boarding drone. It does make the boarding drone more dangerous and gives extra value to life support and door upgrades. And friggin defense drones that yours truly allways allways forgets to activate at stage 2.

It's my signature move in FTL. Awesome huh?
