Is it possible to revert to 1.03.1? (Steam client)

Post by Vortex »

Hi everybody,

I have played FTL vanilla a few months ago, managing to get to the end and having a lot of fun with it. These days I went back to playing it and decided to try out some of the many mods available for it. I was particularly interested in the Infinite Space one ( http://www.ftlgame.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3542 ).

The problem is that the game crashes every time I try to start a new game (I use the Grognak's mod manager). Reading throught the forums, it appears that the problem is that my version of the game is the 1.03.3 (Fresh install on a clean Windows 7) ("clean" as in "formatted only a few weeks ago" :D ), and that downgrading to 1.03.1 would do the trick.

So my questions are:

1. How do I downgrade FTL to 1.03.1?

2. Playing it through Steam, how do I make it so it won't be upgraded automatically by Steam?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I'm sorry to report this, but there's no way to revert to previous versions. I believe the modding community is pretty quick about getting everything to work with new versions of FTL, there are very few changes being made to the game so these patches should hardly effect mods.

You can block future updates by right clicking on FTL in your library and going to "Properties" then turning off auto-update in the Updates tab.

Thanks for your reply, Matthew. I guess I can only wait for the mod to be upgraded (assuming its developer is going to, hopefully he will).

Thanks again!

Steam client should have some option to roll back to a previous version and/or block updates. Maybe not for every game though. KSP reportedly has this option.

Check all the options for FTL to see if you can roll back. Maybe steam forums have some tips.

It's possible it's a feature of KSP because they are still 'in development' as part of Steam's 'Early Access' so they give the players a bit more control over updates?

Yeah, unfortunatly you're right there. It's a Steam beta feature and is not available generally. But the feature is only a few weeks old anyway and it may prove popular enough to become standard.

It is one of the downsides of automatic updates esp. for games that have lots of mods... which is really a lot of games today.

The only way to keep a certain version is to block automatic updates and update manually when time comes. Unfortunatelly i don't know of a way to install an older version through steam. Usually the latest version is the ideal choice, but mod compatibility can suffer.
