I'm trying to get it working with Dxtory, but the game crashes every time I start recording. Really strange as it records other games with no problem, other much more graphically intensive games.

What is everyone using to record? settings and codecs would be awesome

I use Bandicam to record, Audacity to preformat my aduio, and VideoPad to edit everything together. I mostly use the defaults for all three.Jet wrote:What is everyone using to record? settings and codecs would be awesome

For Bandicam, I use Full Size MPEG-1, VBR, 30.00fps, 80q 48000Hz stereo MPEG-1L2 sound at 192kbps bitrate. I put FTL in fullscreen mode to record. I also record my mic to a different wav file so I can do some post processing.
For Audacity, I just load the file, do Noise Removal and the default Compression, then re-save over the WAV file. I only post-process my sounds, not the game.
For VideoPad, I record as an avi at my computer's resolution (1280x720, which Bandicam outputs as well due to the Full Size option above) in H264, with native MP3 sound at 44100Hz, 128kbps stereo. The sound is a bit better in Bandicam than in VideoPad, because you always want to start with the best possible and work down for best quality. I don't bother doing the same with the video because... well no reason really, I just don't
I don't know anything about Dxtory, or why your computer would be crashing. I've never had a problem with the above tools and they're not super expensive. They also both have pretty generous trial packages. Both, IIRC, are fully functional for life but with some nagging deficiencies until you pay for them. I paid for both.

I got the bandicam trial version, it records other much more graphically intensive games fine with no problem. FTL? 5fps!!
