Confusion conserning uploading rules
I've modded the Kestrel and I was wondering if I need to have an original skin to post it or if I can just post it using the default skin?

You don't need a custom skin (hull image) - if you've just changed the Kestrel to have better weapons, or different layout, it's fine to upload it.
Though I imagine many people would find such a mod somewhat lacking, since everyone got used to getting a new fancy graphic with each mod ;P But in the end, what your mod does is completely up to you.
As for rules per se, the only one that I'm aware of is the "don't redistribute game files" rule. Basically what this means, don't include the default Kestrel graphics in your mod package (and you don't even have to, since they're already in the game's files)
