I just got FTL a couple days ago and I am absolutely loving it. It just seems pretty limited in terms of what you can do with the crew. I know the game has a huge modding community. I have been trying to work on a mod of my own but It is my first time, and I am not able to do it with any speed or polish. I was hoping that someone may already be working on a crew mod. I was hoping I could offer some tips and even my services as a voice actor if needed.
Features for a great Crew Mod:
•Additional Skins for crew members
•Gear for crew (Maybe a slot where you can put a weapon for more damage, a repair tool for faster repairs, or a space suit for slower suffocation)
•Jobs or Ranks for crew (Security Officer - does slightly more damage, learns weapon skill faster, Science Officer - Slightly faster repairs, Medical officer - Heals nearby crew, Helmsman, Captain etc)
•Voices for crew members: Both voices upon action (similar to commanding a unit in SC, C&C, or Warcraft) like "Yes Sir!", "Right Away!", "Fixing Shields!", "I'm on it!" -- and reactionary voices such as "Intruders!" "Fire!" "We've got a hull breach!" "Help me!" "I'm injured!"
•More races
•Ability to rename any crew member
If anyone is working on a mod like this and could let me know about it, I would greatly appreciate it. You can be assured that I will follow the progress of your mod.
Also, if you would like any help with it, I would gladly help with voice talent for the crew members. Just PM me if you would like me to do any voice work for your crew mod.

i believe crew is a hard-coded element, and I'm not sure if we can change it. Correct me if I'm wrong, people with actual programming experience.

- Additional Skins for crew members - You can only replace skins. Humans have two skins: male and female. Non-human crew can be female, but their races lack a skin for that and just look indistinguishable. I don't know what happens if you add a female rock skin...

. - Jobs or Ranks for crew - Not possible.
. - Voices for crew members - Not Possible, aside from thuds and death noises in {resource.dat}/audio/waves/aliens/ (assigned in {data.dat}/data/sounds.xml).
. - More races - Races are hardcoded and cannot be added. There is however, a "ghost" race that is available for mods but was never used in the vanilla game (looks like a semi-transparent human with 50hp, needs no oxygen, and walks through doors).
. - Ability to rename any crew member - The best you can do is use the Profile/SavedGame Editor.

Let me preface this by saying I'm sorry, I don't know much about programming mods.
I understand that in the game's current form, many of these aspects of the game are hard-coded into the game and cannot be modded. What about with FTL: Overdrive?
When FTL: Overdrive is completed, will we be be able to mod these aspects of the game?

When that's done, they'll start taking modders' requests for new features.
Until Overdrive is actually playable, discussion about it should be limited to its dedicated thread.
