Zoltan vs Mantis Asteroid Bug

I have absolutely no concrete evidence of this but I think there's a bug during a random distress event. When there's an event in an asteroid field to either help a Zoltan or a Mantis, if I choose to take out the Mantis, the asteroids get really fast in my direction and none are hitting him (I assume this because his Zoltan energy shield isn't taking any hits from the asteroids). This has happened to me twice, so I think it's related to this event.
