Slug crew member + lvl 2 sensors redundant?

As the title says, do I need the lvl 2 sensor upgrade when having a slug crew member? Are there events that only get a blue option with lvl 2 sensor and not with a slug in your team?

Apart from the Slug cruiser quest, AFAIK there's one event that you get Rock with Sensor Lv.2

Sensor Lv.3 (or LR Scanner) do have a lot of good blue option though, but not much for Lv.2
