My computer turns off mid game at times when I play FTL. It does not shut it down or freeze it literally just shuts off as if there were a blackout. This only happens when I play FTL. I have no overheating problem. It used to happen once in a while, this morning it has been 5 times.

That usually only happens when overheating is detected. FTL renders more frames per second than is needed so it could possibly try to tax your graphics card to the limit. In Options there is a Frame Limit setting. Try switching that to On to force the game to only draw needed frames. It might help, FTL has been known to speed up system fans when run without frame limiting. 
Only other reason why a PC would just turn off is either a major virus or a major hardware malfunction. Neither seems likely.
