New here, questions.

Post by The_Destroyer »

Hi, I'm new here. I love the game. But I have some questions:
1: Does manning a station with alot of crew members have more benifet than just one?
2: What should I upgrade/buy first? I usually go for more weapons and reactor power.
3: General hints/tips?

Hello! And welcome to the forums!

Here are some answers, although I am sure that others will have more to say:
1. No. Manning a station by more than one crew has no benefit, except when repairing damage.
2. With the Kestrel you will want to get Shields lvl 2 as soon as possible. Then aim for an extra or a better weapon. You will also want to upgrade your engines for faster FTL charge time and better Evasion during combat. The other system I like to upgrade fairly soon is Doors lvl 2; it is just too awesome to be able to trap fire and boarders and vent out the O2.
3. Best advice: be tough! FTL is difficult to learn and can be brutal at times, but it's tons of funs and well worth the time invested. Also, there are plenty of posts on the forums that will have lots more general and specific advice, so read on!

And good luck!

Well you made it there. :D

The boss is a miserable #&*$(# cheater, so you will have to watch and learn what he can do, then be prepared for it next time. It takes a few tries before you can nail him. Good luck.

I know what you mean now, personally.
I was doing so **** well, and I completed the first stage with the default cruiser (I forget), then when it got to the drone stage, he somehow had 100 drones, and everything was failing.
Ill come back in a year.

Cloak is really helpful for drone spam; it also really helps to have high evasion and max shields. I usually save my cloak for his stupid triple-rocket attack; if you have a max-level pilot and a max-level engine person and really high engine power, you can have over 50% evasion, which means even his drone spam attack ain't getting past your 4 layers of shields!

And if you think THAT'S cheating, wait until Stage 3... XD

I second the recommendation for level 2 doors early on - it's really cheap, and it prevents fires from spreading between rooms (really helpful!), and it keeps BOARDERS from spreading between rooms (SUPER helpful!). If you're doing anything that involves killing crew, whether that be teleport or fire weapons, sensors level 2 is super useful and cheap too.

Ion Bomb is a really really good weapon that I heartily recommend. It takes a missile, but it ignores both shields and defense drones. If you get a hit on the cockpit of ANY enemy ship including the boss, they will have 0 evasion until the effect wears off - which takes longer than the weapon takes to recharge. Ion Bomb and lots of lasers is probably my favorite weapons layout late-game.
