The Many travels of the U.S.S Torus

Post by SBRover »

Here is a random story I felt like writing. Hope you like! :)

Sector 001: Space-dock Alpha-5Z
Captain Charlie:
I am the new captain of the U.S.S. Torus. It has been a long journey for me getting to this point, I have served for many years aboard the U.S.S Sovereign, an Osprey-class. I would be happier if it were not for one thing-the rebel alliance which has been plaguing the Federation for a long time has constructed a massive flagship. Myself and my crew are the last hope, for we have some Intel, telling us when, where, and how we can defeat the rebel flagship. I have been assigned two spare Engi- Xin Xin and Albert. I like the Engi, they are excellent at following orders, unlike a lieutenant I served with before...

Captain Charlie walked across the walkway towards the new ship he had been assigned. He gave it a look-over with the keen eyes of an experienced officer. An Engi officer clambered down off of the top of the ship.
"Name:Albert. Ship repair:87% complete. Time to completion: Approximately 3 hours. Time of Rebel arrival: Approximately 2.5 hours."
Captain Charlie nodded. "Can we leave now?"
Albert tilted his head. "Calculating...Confirmed, once fuel load is at 100% and preliminary checks completed."
Another Engi emerged. Xin Xin, Charlie presumed. "All preliminary checks complete. Fuel load is at 93%-leaving before Rebel arrival is reccomended."
Charlie nodded. Are you clear on the mission details?
The two Engi nodded. "Affirmative, Captain"
"Right, lets go!"

Charlie started the starship's bridge computer and sat down in the chair. A small window popped up. 'DATA TRANSFERAL COMPLETE'
Charlie smiled. "Alright guys, lets get this mission underway. Albert...?"
"Weapons functioning correctly."
"Xin Xin?"
"Shields operating within acceptable parameters."
Charlie smiled. He punched in the Captains code and manually fired up the engines. The super-efficient Engi equipment started up without a stutter, humming quietly to themselves. Charlie sent a signal to the control room aboard the space-dock,requesting permission to depart. A second later, the reply came back. 'Permission granted' said the synthetic female voice. Underneath the Torus, the magnetic docking clamps released, and the engines lifted it smoothly upwards, clearing the tower, and slowly propelling it towards the airlock at the far side of the port.
Entering into the airlock with them were two ships-Both Federation. As the air was slowly sucked out of the airlock and back into the space-dock, Charlie knew that he and his crew owed the members of these ships and the five others outside, because they would delay the rebels for as long as possible, so he and the Torus could get a head start on the rebels. He slowly steered the Torus to the right, and switched to the rear camera, watching in increasing horror as ships dropped out of FTL speed. The rebels had begun their assault early! Cursing under his breath, he increased the maximum power of the engines. A green window popped up on the screen. CONFIRM COORDINATES AND SPEED? Y/N.
"You'd better believe it." he muttered Just as the Torus accelerated towards the light-speed barrier, he caught a flash of energy beams from the rebel fleet. The battle for Space-dock Alpha-5Z had begun.

What do you think...?

I know it's been a while...but I'm bored...

One hour later...
Captain Charlie sighed as The Torus arrived at the Beacon. He had been having some troubling thoughts on the journey over from Space-dock Alpha-5Z. Memories of 10 years ago...

The U.S.S Thaumium rocked from multiple blasts from the pirate ship. Commander Charlie cursed as he pulled the dead captain out of the Bridge chair, trying not to look at his face.
"Lt. Hammond!" he yelled into the bridge comm. "Reroute power from the weapons to the shields!"
A calm and collected voice replied came from the other end of the comm. "Where is the Captain, Commander?"
"Dead! Just get that power sorted NOW, before we die in here!"
"With all due respect Sir, we can easily take them out when the burst lasers are charged-"
"I don't care! We NEED shields, and we need them NOW!"
In the weapons room, Lt. Hammond narrowed his gaze. He tapped away at the keyboard in front of him for a moment, before smiling slightly to himself.
Back on the Bridge, Commander Charlie cursed as the burst laser lowered itself from the port it was held in, and fired a volley of shots at the Pirate. The enemy vessel rolled for a moment before detonating in a ball of fire.
"Lt. Hammond!" thundered Charlie. "Did I tell you to fire?!"
"No, sir"
"SO WHY DID YOU?"
"Because it was the right thing to do, sir."
Charlie scowled. It had been the right thing to do, but the fact remained that Lt. Hammond had failed to obey a direct order from his commanding officer. And that was a direct breach of Federation regulations. He opened the comm line again.
"Security team, please take Lt. Hammond to the brig. The Captain is dead, and as the highest ranking officer I am taking control of this ship whilst we return to the nearest Space-dock. That is all."
Acting Captain Charlie looked out of the window at the wreckage of the pirate ship, and sighed.

The present-location-Space-dock Alpha-5Z
Captain Hammond walked down the boarding ramp of his ship and smiled. The Federation forces outside had been torn to shreds by his cruisers, and it had been a simple matter to hack the doors to the Space-dock and take control. Space-dock Alpha-5Z was now a rebel installation. A security officer approached him.
"All signs of resistance have been eliminated, but we're making secondary sweeps of the area to be sure. We're also scrapping the Federation ships in this base that were due for refit, so we have a few more ships to rely on."
Hammond smiled. "Excellent job, Sergeant, you have done your duty well. Please, continue." He was about to board his ship again, when a communications officer ran up.
"Sir, we have received a message from command. You are to lead the Special task force in securing the Federation black budget project Omnicron-C."
"I'm afraid that I am not familiar with that project, Lt."
"They have sent all necessary files to your personal computer Sir. You are also to be promoted to Admiral if all goes well."
Hammond raised on eyebrow.
"I shall inspect the files immediately. Inform command the we have captured this Space-dock."
And with that, Captain Hammond turned on his heel, and went back up the boarding ramp.
