I'm ignorant as to what is being developed but I really hope PvP is something they are considering.
This game just runs so beautifully smoothly, it reminds me of Broodwar and deserves PvP.
With pausing disabled the game requires a lot of multi-tasking skill combined with fantastic strategy.
Imagine a huge star map with 3 ships on either side (3v3). In the middle is an objective that must be held for 10 turns.
Ships traverse across the map encountering random events and increasing the power of their ships. To allow battling neutrals to be a viable option timewise you must always wait for your FTL to charge, even when it's just text. This gives you time to talk to your team-mates and discuss strategies. Weapons and augments can be sold to team-mates (items are converted to scrap cost and all trades must be equal to stop "stacking" one ship with all the weapons) to maximise your fleet potential.
Systems that have been previously visited eventually reset allowing for matches to last a while.
When two players of opposing teams warp to the same system a battle takes place, the game is paused for all other players as they watch the battle unfold and chat about strategy in chat (helping their teammate if they can).
It's possible to FTL out if you're losing but enemies get their boarders back.
Eventually one team holds the objective for 10 turns and wins.
What do you guys think?
This game would be AWESOME with PvP

Well i agree on that the battle mechanics surely would work for pvp, even tho there would probably be a need for the creators to balance the different weapons. And to be honest i rather have them work on another campain.
But if they were to make a pvp i would probably test it out.
However the gamemode you propose seem to attract people to a certain point, why not have objectives on the map that increases the resources of your ships instead. That would make it more strategic outside battles, also it would make nebulas more attractive since you could ninja-capture certain points or objectives and dissapear into them.
For example, i could go for heavy shields and/or defensive androids to be able to contest areas around astroid fields.
Otherwise everyone will just pick the items most suitable for that one objective in the middle. (even though i guess there would be kinda hard just walking just over to the middle due to a quite harsh universe standing in between.)

The problem with removing pause is that some weapon combos work fine without it, while others become far more difficult

Could be managable if weapons had a "volley" order.

That's not really a problem at all in my opinion; in fact it just makes it even more interesting.zarakon wrote:The problem with removing pause is that some weapon combos work fine without it, while others become far more difficult
The most devastating offensive tools; teleporters and beam weapons, would also be the most difficult to use.
To draw parallels with other RTS games. It's like drop strategies in BroodWar -a very powerful strategy but it takes great skill to micro-manage your drop ships and simultaneously make units.
