Hi all,
I've been playing the game for few days now and I need some beginners advice. I always seem to die too quickly. Can you suggest what to do at the beginning and what to avoid.
Thanks!

Hiya
There's already a ton of advice on the forum. This topic in particular has a nice colletion of (mostly advanced) tips.
The best advice is practise practise practise. The game becomes easier when you understand why you fail. Have fun tryin' (and dyin'
), we all do both a lot.

I would say stick to Civilian(green) worlds if you can until you feel confident your ship can take on hostile sectors. Avoid Nebulas unless you have Long Range Sensors, mainly because of the Plasma Storms.
3 things you should be concerned about always having and building on as the game progresses.
1. Adequate defense. i.e. shields for Lasers and Beams, defense drone for missiles. Level 2 shields early goes a long way towards survivability.
2. Adequate offense. Something to knock down or disable the enemy shield, something to damage their ship and destroy their weapons. Depending on how powerful their weapons are you might go for the weapons before their shields.
3. Adequate boarding defense. Nothing worse than being boarded by 4 jokers from a planet or station when you only have 2 or 3 guys in the beginning. I always buy a couple Mantis or Rocks when they are available early in a store.

Come talk to us that are still actively playing at:
http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=f ... ght&uio=d4
The gang here would be more than happy to chat you through a game giving you advice and tips as you go. We often bounce a lot of stuff of each other.
Welcome to the game and the forum!
-Antony
P.S. The chat room does not instantly notify the people in there that someone is in there inquiring. Sometimes addressing a user in the room will notify them but that's only if they're near their computer. If you came and left because nobody responded, please post below so that a time can be arranged and some of the active members forewarned of your inquiry.

010101101,
Was that you that came in the chat room under FTLnoob? If so, sorry we missed you. Keep checking in. My nickname is 'Antony' so if you see me there, just start a conversation and I'll see it when I check in. Keep the chat client up so that you can check back, if possible. Conversations mostly, but don't always happen in real-time.
Regards, Antony

Hell yeah, they are one of the first things you should get. You can live without sensors or autopilot, but at least lvl 2 doors are working O2 system for your crew's lungs!marted wrote:lvl 2 doors always lvl 2 doors
