Cannot "unpause"

Ok, so I downloaded the game from Steam no problem, even got a few hours in.

I like the game a lot, but can not get it to start for me now.

Let me explain: it starts up great, I can create a new game and get to the start screen where it says "Press spacebar to resume game". I hit the space bar and NOTHING HAPPENS. I have gone into settings and set the "pause" key to other letters but still, NOTHING HAPPENS.

The weird thing is that I can access the main menu, explore the graphics options and even view the credits, but for the life of my I cannot get the game to actually start.

Has anyone else had this problem?!

What operating system do you use? Windows? 64-bits? Even though it should not be related, what graphics card do you have?

Is there a chance another application is "stealing" the keyboard? Have you installed some kind of "global hot key" program?

I don't know Steam well, but I know it has some kind of overlay. Have you tried disabling it?

Is there a dialog box open? The game remains paused during all dialog events, and the "Start Screen" is a dialog box. You might have to choose "Continue.."

If that's not the cause, middle mouse button also unpauses the game so if you're having any keyboard issues try that.
