Take the drone or teleporter?

Whats better to purchase first, a teleporter or a drone?

My general rule of thumb is, Teleporter if you've got the crew to man it, Drone Control if you don't. Drone is useful (in some capacity) right away, but Teleporter only works with the right manpower (or Rock/Mantis/Crystal power, if you've got it).

Nothing to do with the 'right' crew, they're all right imo. Take the teleporter allways, BUT make sure your ship can survive while the crew is away and better have some weap to disable medbays. Also, having some scrap to put into a lvl3 tele+ lvl2 at least medbay is important. Drone Ctrl only needs a drone, so it's easier, but less usefull.

If you've only got two or three crew members and they're Engi or Zoltan, boarding strategies are probably not your best bet. That was the point I was making. And while you can make them viable boarders if you have to, generally the free drone schematic you get with the controller is a more useful investment in the short-term. Boarding may be the best strategy overall, but I've run into more than a few games where I went for the teleporter first, then got shafted on crew.

True, everyone bar the Engi or Zoltan are allright. I misread that Mantis/Crystals are required.
