Bought it on Steam, is it launchable without steam?

Post by palehorse864 »

I bought FTL on Steam during the weekend sale, but had I known there was a HumbleBundle version which also registers on steam, I probably would have grabbed that and gotten the best of both worlds. Is there any way I can play my steam version on my laptop without actually running steam?

That's up to Steam i'm affraid. Humble, GOG and Steam all sell the same game, and it's DRM free, but Steam and GOG use their own installers and updates, and for some reason the Steam version can't launch without steam.

Ahh thank you. Is it possible to transfer the non-steam EXE from a friend's version? I know Introversion's game Defcon had a steam/non-steam version. You could download the non-steam version though and use your steam-key to make it work. It was really nice.

Well buying the game from the website includes a Steam key. :D It just doesn't work the other way around.

Technically it may not be kosher from a legal point of view to do what you ask, but you did buy the game so i see no reason why you should be inconvenienced. I can't recommend it, but nothing stops your from trying. It may cause problems with Steam updates though, since all three versions are updated indepenedtly.

Thanks for the info. It shouldn't be too hard. I mainly want to do it on my laptop. I bought a copy for my brother, and so I can just get the files from him on a thumb drive to fiddle with.
