What am i missing?

Apologies in advance for what might be a stupid question to all you advanced players here.

My problem is with the teleporter. I had two crew members on the boss ship who were fighting enemy crew. When they got low on health i wanted to teleport them back, but i couldn't. The teleporter was not on cooldown, there were no supershields, when i click the enemy room to teleport my crew back, the red teleport symbol is displayed in the room, but instead of returning, my crew just keeps fighting.

I'm missing something or am unaware of some game mechanic, but what is it? I don't want to start another game knowing this can happen again and cost me two crew members. Thanks in advance.

Maybe they had stealth on?
When the enemy ship uses stealth, you can't use your teleporter but the teleporting symbol appears and teleports them when the cloak stops.

It's possible, i can't remember if the boss was cloaked or not. Next time it happens i'll pay attention to that.

Sounds exactly like a stealth situation. You can't retrieve your guys if the enemy ship is stealthed.

If you think you might need to pull your boarders out of there, disable the enemy's stealth system before boarding next time.

Also, if your crew members are trying to escape a room (bash down a door) that has lvl 2 doors or higher, they will not be teleported out.

Yes but in that case, the teleporter will not show the target cursor on the enemy ship. It will try and teleport someone out of the room you targeted. If there's no one to teleport it will just change back to normal and wait for another order.
