Can't bring myself to cheat, can't unlock the ships I want

Post by AzuredreamsXT »

There's only two I want to play as; slug and mantis. Yet the RNG has raped me without remorse every game. I've beaten normal, and I'm sick of the ships I have. Why did they make unlocking this random?

I feel like I've wasted hours of my life, attempt after attempt to unlock the ships I wanted from the very start. It's not fun trying to unlock them, but do I just give up and walk away? Every game it's a roll of the dice, no matter how skillfully I play if the RNG doesn't want to cooperate, it's a futile effort.

Fuck my inability to cheat, and fuck the devs for being evil. I am actually angry over a game, of all the stupid first world problems to be upset about. This might be what causes me to take a step back and give up gaming, I'm 25 and maybe it's about that time. Maybe I just don't have the patience for this kind of crap anymore

To those who are as unlucky with RNG unlock events as I am, but who also refuse to cheat, did you just soldier on until you had success? How long did it take for you to grab the ships you wanted? Or did you just walk away from the game; an option that seems the mature thing to do rather than getting pissed off over a 10 dollar video game

I have had some luck with ships so far, unlocking the Crystal ship, Rock cruiser, Engie and federation ship.

The rest I just focus on by playing a game or two a day. I am not in any particular rush.

But if you are getting to the point that you are getting upset over a game, much less one designed to have a random element, then I would say take a break.

The number one way to cause yourself stress over a game is to be in the mindset to get angry at it.

Play on easy.
This game is meant to unlock everything on easy, and then do it all again on normal. Every achievement track the difficulty and will be re-unlocked, with all whistles and stuff.

Never let your ambitions stand in your way to have fun.

Most of the time i prefer to visit Nebulas or Mantis sectors, but i will visit any Homeworld sector i havent found a cookie in, even if i havent got a crewmember i need. Most of the time i got jack but i did unlock several ships. If you beat the boss once that gives you access to 6 ships counting type Bs. That's not bad.

Engi and Zoltan seem easiest to unlock, and to get a Mantis you should play like a Mantis. Board a lot and hope you hit the right encounter.

And don't get discouraged with the game when it gives you incentive to play it :) at least it's not boring. Though slowly getting there it seems.

Tired of trying to unlock ships? Here's what you do:

SUICIDE RUNS!

Really, it's unbelievably fun to try unorthodox tactics to rush to a certain sector and try to unlock ships.

My previous playthrough I tried to unlock the third Adjudicator achievement in which you have to get to Sector 5 without upgrading your reactor; every bit of scrap I got went into beefing up my engine. I would just buy fucktons of Zoltans and stick them all in the engine room, I think my evasion chance was at least 40% even without reactor upgrades. I could even power my Burst Laser II and Glaive Beam!

But really, if you're tired of orthodox gameplay, try something stupid and new. Set personal goals for yourself, like 'I will get to Sector X without using System Y, and I will do it without upgrading System Z'.

This makes me want to try a shieldless playthrough...

Decided to try one more run, unlocked the slug cruiser at sectors 5 - 6. Next sector is a hostile one (saved and quit after I unlocked the slug) so it's potentially the mantis homeworld.

Anyways thanks for the encouragement guys!

as for the mantis ships I do advice going for those "suicide" runs mentioned above.

Since the requirements for this ship/achiev. are so taxing (see end of post) you dont want to be spending resources on having the quest requirements AND trying to beat the game.
- ofc, do it on easy.
- restart/reset the game after sector 1 if you have no RED sectors in the next 2-3 sectors
- upgrade the teleporter and med bay asap and if u can buy a mantis just do so.
- skip/avoid fights
- use a boarding party to win the battle without destroying the ship (destroy weapons bay 1st)

"Have a Mantis, Teleporter Rank 2, and Med Bay Rank 2 (Apparently this is easier to get than before thanks to a new patch, so if someone has the new requirements, please tell me)
>Get to the Mantis Homeworlds (Red Sector)
>One node has an even with a really-long-named Captain who's a thief. You'll get a Blue option for having a Mantis that will make them do a dance. Choose that, and you'll fight the ship.
>Do not blow up the ship. You must kill the crew. Use your teleporter.
>After that, choose the Blue option for having a Teleporter to beam them on board.
>Then once again choose the Blue option for having a rank 2 med bay to save the Captain. Congratulations, you have the Mantis Cruiser."

Yep I know exactly what needs to be done, and I almost had it but I forgot the med bay lvl 2. Anyways now that I've gotten the slug cruiser I'm more than happy to go without the mantis.

Unlocked the Mantis Cruiser yesterday :D.
Started the game hell bent on doing it (after 3 failed attempts). Saved all scrap possible to buy crew tp + med bay 2 asap. Followed the path with the most red dots in order to increase my chances of getting to Mantis Homeworld. Found the event. Almost cried from happiness after unlock. Time to focus on beating the game with the Mantis ship and unlock type B. Next time I cross paths with that pesky Slug ship it won't escape. I'm not even thinking on Crystal cruiser at this moment.
