How are points scored?
After beating the game twenty times, I still don't know how points are scored. Does anyone? If not, I guess I should try causing a game over after tracking down some stats (events successful, kills, captures, personnel takedowns, own personnel deaths). I simply supposed you had to jump more beacons and die less, but started wondering why my ships which killed were scoring higher than those who boarded.

Re: How are points scored?
It's an enigma. Maybe I can rule a few things out?
I just finished a total luck-driven scorcher of a game with the Mantis Cruiser B clocking only 5,700 points, 2nd best to a much harder, but still lucky run with the Mantis A.
Through the game I boarded and cleared every single non-drone ship for maximum scrap and didn't lose any crew or jump away from any fight. Didn't have to repair until sector 5, and then not until I was given free reps at 8.
By sector 8 I had fully upgraded everything including cloak and the starting systems (inc. drones and teleporter). Also fully upgraded the three sub-systems. At this point I was wondering if I should be hoarding scrap on the off chance that's where the points are, but decided against it (not next time).
With 4 mantis boarding it at each stage, I only lost 1 point of hull to the boss. The result of all this?
A cool but not phenominal 5,700 points, 2nd best to a good run which relied on mostly boarding and went pretty well... I recall on that run I lucked into two scrap arms in the first sector. I don't remember drowning in scrap because of it though as I was in this run.
If I was guessing I'd say at the end it (among other things) counts up your scrap, and half the cost of scrap you spent. The idea would be that you spend what you need and no more. Seems silly not to reward you for having an ultimate badass ship but there you go.

Re: How are points scored?
I started recording my scores and stats from the end screen, and found that the following factors would calculate the final score the game showed pretty much on the dot:
20 points per ship defeated
10 points per beacon explored
1 point per scrap collected
0 points per crew hired
no bonus for victory
Multiply by 1.25 for normal difficulty
20 points per ship defeated
10 points per beacon explored
1 point per scrap collected
0 points per crew hired
no bonus for victory

What about scrap recovery arm? does it effectively raise score?Klarth wrote:I started recording my scores and stats from the end screen, and found that the following factors

If that's right, then I guess just jump around fighting the rebel fleet once you have cloak or defence drones

Yep, you're quite right. Just managed 8,000 jumping around fighting rebels for a while at the end of each sector.Klarth wrote:I started recording my scores and stats from the end screen, and found that the following factors would calculate the final score the game showed pretty much on the dot:

Heh, I was wondering if it is possible to artificially inflate the score by doing that. Seems like something that should be fixed.ThaumusAudux wrote: Yep, you're quite right. Just managed 8,000 jumping around fighting rebels for a while at the end of each sector.
Also, looking at my scores, I think its more like 50 points per ship defeated.

I thought it was wrong too, but I had forgotten the 25% extra for normal. Try that?jamotide wrote:Heh, I was wondering if it is possible to artificially inflate the score by doing that.
