Idk about the viability of other ships, but on the Kestrel A I managed to contain a fire in the lower corridor connecting the engine room and weapons room, venting EVERYTHING else in the rear compartment except occasionally the weapons room. It's all about containing the spread of the fire by carefully manipulating doors around non-critical systems.

You just have to get a fire bomb or get lucky enough to have a fire imposed upon you (solar flares help too xD)

Sadly, that attempt to unlock the Kestrel B failed disastrously as I made the stupid error of not going to a store beforehand.
I actually set fire to my ship with a firebomb while at a store and let it get me down to 1 hull. Then I did the full repair, but it did not give me the achievement.

One thing I've wondered about, since cloaking raises your evasion rate to obscene levels, can it be used to easily farm piloting/engine skill? If you used it to dodge a burst laser volley every time it was up, it wouldn't take too long to max out the dodging skills, even not considering passive chance to dodge.

Nope, no exp gain for shots dodged in cloak not to pilot or engineer. Makes it hard to get any sort of exp for crew in the stealth ship B.

Powerleveling or not, levels are capped awfully fast if you aren't really obliterating people with the preigniter and cloak-dodging.
