Rock Cruiser Maiden Flight Goes Wrong

Post by Fangz »

My first run with the recently unlocked Rock Cruiser (type A). Very soon I notice that a missiles only ship won't last long without a laser/beam support, or maybe a crew teleporter. Starving on missiles I run to the second store on the very first sector in order to get a new weapon and resupply. Fortunately, the store offers a crew teleporter. I get the teleporter and all the missiles the rest of my money can buy. Next beacon I encounter a barely armed and weak rebel ship - with a VERY, VERY GOOD pilot. "Miss", "miss" and another "miss" (yes, three "miss" in a row). I decide to teleport two of my crew members into the enemy ship. As I do it, the message appears that the enemy ship is powering up its ftl drive in order to get away. I start shooting my missiles at the ship's engine. 1 hit, one miss. The one hit caused only partial damage to the engine room. My teleporter is still on the cooldown. My crew members still there. The enemy ship jumps away with them aboard. The lone rock left aboard my ship sighs, but no one can hear it. :(

What a great way to lose :)

Mine best was when i went the upper road through the sector with exit beacon on the right lower part of the map. When i came to planet 1 jump away from exit beacon Ive realized they aren't connected, even thou in 99% of the situations beacons at that distance are connected. I had to travel 5 jumps back into a rebel forces to take another route, resulting in defeat sadly :D

Another good one was when i lost the ship from 100% due to solar flares. Ive teleported my crew back from enemy ship and sent them into medbay, just a second before medbay caught the fire. 2 crewman died and ive managed to save one, sent him into pilot quarters just to lose an engine before the jump. I've put the fires out by opening air locks but oxygen was low and system had to be repaired. He didnt make that run across the ship. :)

The 1st one happened to me also! It's so frustrating. Only recently I discovered there's an option that allows you to see beacon paths when you hover the mouse over it :D. Very good to avoid sector layout traps.

That 2nd story of yours was so tragic, dude. I can only imagine how you must have felt. But maybe your last guy's death was for the best. Travelling across the universe alone is kinda tough. :)

In case you didn't know, the latest update added a UI element that when you hover over any beacon, it will tell you what other beacons are connected to it.

You can enable it in the Option menu.
