(Possible Spoiler) Victory, yet no Spoils

Post by Sovereighn2280 »

I recently beat the game after my 816th play. But I died right before the victory. The Battleship died, but I didn't get the Osprey. Is this a bug, or just EXTREMELY bad luck?

First off, did you beat all three of the boss' phases? If you are saying you only beat the first or second phase, then died soon after, you didn't actually beat the boss. (I'm not assuming that happened in this case, but it's a common thing to be unaware of - unless previously spoiled by reading the forum.)

Secondly, the game should end the moment after the boss blows up in the third phase, which is what led me to suggest you might have only destroyed the first form.

Thirdly, if you had multiple fires raging and a great deal of hull damage, I suppose it might be possible to blow up in the third phase before that aforementioned explosion animation completed, which I would attribute to a great deal of bad luck and bad timing.

My ship, the Kestrel at the time, had just closed the rooms interface, and the Phase 3 boss had JUST blown up soon after. I got the credits and everything, but no Osprey. So, just an insane amount of bad luck?

My guess is bad luck. But know this: I was waiting to beat the game on easy like mad in order to move away from the dreaded Kestrel and on to the dreamy Osprey, only to realize later how good and balanced the starting ship can be compared to some other freaks.

Newcomers hate the Kestrel because it's the only ship available at the beginning, but it's actually vice versa, its sole availability is the only reason it can be hated while much of the rest are freaks with hard beginnings.

It's probably just a bug. :( Just have to beat it again I'd guess. :/ Or use the profile editor. Or pester Matthew.

At least your game got counted as a victory, heh.

Apparently, if your final, killing volley is en route to the flagship as you blow up, the game is counted as a loss. However, if the flagship blows up while its final volley is on its way to finish your ship off, it gets counted as a win.

Nah, I'd prefer just to try again. I don't cheat. And I will inform Matthew, but I won't pester him about it.
