Best game i've played in a long time but...

Post by Tyrisbel »

I love this game, bought it on steam, and planning to buy it on gog so I can put it on my laptop, it has afforded me many hours of fun, and will continue to do so. However there are a few things I'd like to developers to know (from what is now a dedicated fan)
EDIT: I'm an Idiot, you can view achievments, sincere apologies
With no way to view game-wide achievements (ie which you've unlocked and not unlocked, not just ship achievements) I find it tedious to constantly tab out and check. Also, some of the achievements aren't skill based and actually seem only based on random occurrence (specifically the consecutive five dodge fails with an upgraded engine) There is no motivation on the players to part to strive for such an achievement, in fact it fails the definition of such entirely, not because of the dodge fail, but because there is no skill or perseverance on the players part that can influence this.

Similarly, but less so, The crystal cruiser unlock is just insane. I would much rather be worrying about my particular play through, how my ship is upgraded and equipped, than constantly grinding for three consecutive random events. Again, I feel no skill or achievement trying to unlock this, just tedious grind. the other ship unlocks were challenging, clever and strategic, and the trial and error in those was fairly quickly rewarded.

That all being said, I feel guilty just coming here to bitch, because I really REALLY do love this game, and I eagerly await DLC or a sequel (yes I'd pay for DLC for this game, new ships, races etc.) Keep it up guys, I look forward to supporting you!

to your final point i totally agree.
I wouldn't mind paying for some more content, ships, maps, maybe another boss :)
wonder how much it takes/how hard it is to create new content at this moment.

fingers crossed, but Justin and Matthiew seem like really cool folks. I'm sure they'll chuck us a bone eventually. :)

Welcome to the forum. Your post is fair and not even mildly bitchy compared to a few select turds that have graced the forum.

Your points are valid. The grind however was added to the game as an extra something to aim for rather than just rinse/repeat the same thing over and over again. Some unlocks can also be your only lucky reward in a failed game. Many of the achievement are pretty silly in nature, so think of it as a dose of humor in what is a pretty harsh game. They also fit some ship models better than others, or make the game extra challenging. Living of the Land can make the outcome very very random for example, but rather than being a requirement to piss everybody off, it's entirely optional.

As for Astronomically low odds. I don't think it's an achievement anyone would ever aim for  it's just happens and you laugh a bit while you cry. If you havent got it yet, don't worry. Everyone gets it eventually.

True, some of FTL's achievements are luck based, and the crystal ship unlock is the most luck based out of all of them.
But like UltraMantis said, they are funny to get, and this makes them more bareable.

At least the achievements are just "play over and over again until u collect this much scrap" or "travel 1,000,000 jumps" like so many games have nowadays.

They do require some planning to get, but yes, they are mostly based on luck.
