Long range scanner

After my first jump and first encounter in first play through with Engi cruiser I've suddenly got the ability to see surrounding systems like i have long range scanners installed on my ship and i didn't. How did i get that ability? It lasted until my ship was destroyed.

Maybe you got the augmentation as a reward. You allways get scrap, sometimes supplies, rarley weapons and augs. It is possible though.

Sometimes as a reward, you will get the eniter sector scan, but it only lasts one sector.

Ive checked it many times, i had only starter Engi augmentation and 2 empty slots together with LRS effect. Sadly i didn't manage to break through the sector because playing based on ion gun+droids was a new strategy i didn't accommodate well sadly. Every beacon had that extra info like when i have LRS. If i lasted a bit longer through a sector i may had a better picture.

Did you see the entire sector at once, or did you only get information on a new zone once you were within a jump of it? In the former case, you just downloaded a map of the sector from the enemy ship.
