Final boss, help! [SPOILERS]

Ok, so I can consistently get to the final boss, and I can consistently own him in the first encounter.

The problem is I can't survive the power surges. I have a fully upgraded stealth system, and I stealth during the first surge and it's fine, but the cooldown on stealth is longer than the cooldown on his surges.

What am I missing here?

Crank down your cloak system to only one bar - it will give you enough time to avoid the surge and will usually have cooled down by the next one.

Cloak is great for the boss, but if you have max shields and decently upgraded engines, you should be getting through those surges taking a few shots at most. Make sure you are taking out the boss's primary weapons as fast as you can. Disabling his drone system also helps.

You should be able to survive one surge with your standard defenses (assuming you have some evasion and full shields, a rather heavy investment on the Stealth cruiser, but necessary), and the next with cloaking. Yet, you need to do what Canman says. Take that missile trio out of your sky, or it will crack your ship like an egg eventually (unless you're using Defense II drones). Are you playing on Easy or Normal?

Generally I find that you can tank the drone surges pretty well with only 3-4 level shields and 4-5 bars on engines. The important thing to remember is that you need to take down is burst lasers quickly once you kill his missile launcher as those tend to down your shields and make way for the drones.
