So, in an attempt to find the Crystal Ship (yes, another thread about this), I decided to save my game in an alternative file when I found that the galaxy map had a promising layout of sector colors after sector 1. I was bored with the Rock ship, and was trying something else. I figured I'd try the Engi sector, 2, a few times to see if I could get the pod to spawn.
I played sector 2, and found it. Yay! I had no Rock armor, though, and didn't get the Crystal. No more pods showed up, either (is that possible?). I reloaded the game. Boo at me if you must, but I'm not interested in leaving that much of my gaming experience to chance; that's not fun.
So, I started the sector again. I found the pod again. Again, no Crystal. I did this about 10 times, in the hope that the chance to spawn the pod would come up when I found it. This now makes me wonder, are the outcomes for such things as finding the pod set at the start of the game (which would make re-checking the pod each time pointless), or does the game assess your pod probability each time you encounter it, which would mean I just have bad luck? I don't know enough about programming language to check this, myself.
Thanks to all who're able to contribute; I hope this helps other folks, too.
Are sectors made as-you-go?

when was the save you reloaded for the 10 times you were trying to get a different result from the pod?
was it the same sector or before the sector that had the pod? I think the sector you are in is static but sectors down the line might change a bit.

I made sure to save in sector 1; the pod I keep banging my head against is sector 2. So, negative on that one.

I have got the impression that the whole map is already generated once you start a new game?

So, a related question: though a series of trial-and-error starts, saving, and luck, I managed to get a Crystal crew member to the Rock Homeworlds sector. However, after several run-throughs, I have yet to find this last waypoint that everyone talks about. Is there a chance it won't spawn, even if you've got him? Or am I just missing the point each time (been three now)?

afaik the map of sectors is made once for a game, the map of any particular sector happens as you enter it.
BTW: never save in the exit node, it may make you skip a sector.

Has this bug been reported in the Technical Support and Bugs subforum? I don't remember reading about it, and it sounds pretty big.Agent_L wrote:BTW: never save in the exit node, it may make you skip a sector.

It's already fixed in newer versions.boa13 wrote:Has this bug been reported in the Technical Support and Bugs subforum? I don't remember reading about it, and it sounds pretty big.Agent_L wrote:BTW: never save in the exit node, it may make you skip a sector.
