Is firebombing a weapons room on the boss the only way to get this achievement?
I would like to unlock Rock Cruiser B as I am sick to death of Rock Cruiser A, and getting the Crystal Ship seems even harder, but I've been boarding rooms with two Rock crewmen and a firebomb equipped and no one (not even enemy Rock crew) will fight in a burning room. Even if you kill them while they are running through fire, it always seems like it is the fire damage (or sometimes, oxygen loss damage) that kills them, so no dice. I play on Normal and I'm awful at this game, so even getting to the boss at all is usually more then I can manage. And for a 'first rank' achievement, it seems way too hard to get this.
Any thoughts?

It's tricky/very difficult yes, but it's possible.
You basically have to set their entire ship on fire though, which is easier with smaller ships(the easiest ship to get this achievement against is probably the slug interceptor, only has 3 connected rooms).
Getting some ion weapon and a fire beam would help a lot too.
So just keep trying, you'll get it eventually, I did.

Naturally, as soon as I make a forum post bitching about not being able to get the achievement, the very next run I am:
A) Able to get to the boss. And after 10 Small Bombs (couldn't find a Fire Bomb this round), none of which had set any fires, and thus three weapon rooms on the boss cleared of crew members, the very last bomb before killing the last crew member in the final weapons room starts a fire, and I just barely get my Rocks over there in time to get the final blow. Achievement unlocked!
B) Finally beat the game on Normal for the first time.
C) Am able to finally open the stasis pod and get the Crystal crew member (for the first time in about 25+ times actually getting the stasis pod). Unfortunately, the Rock Homeworld was not available on this version, and besides the Crystal man was killed by a poorly placed bomb in Sector 7, but its still a first.
So I guess posting on a forum to complain is good luck!

How I did it:
1. Set a room in the middle of their ship on fire. A room that they have to pass through to get from one part of the ship to the other.
2. Put rockmen in it.
3. After the enemies have fled that room, move ONE of the rockmen to a non-burning system on the side of the ship opposite where the enemy crew ran to.
4. The enemy crew will pass through that original burning room with the rockman in it to try to get to the other rockman.
5. If you're lucky, the rockman you have waiting will get a killing blow instead of the fire.
To improve chances of success, you can use 3 rockmen on their ship. Have two of them in a 2-space burning room (less fire damage than a 4-space room) with the third acting as the bait.
